    Taper Roller Bearings

HRB produces a wide range of taper roller bearings in single row and double row designs with metric dimensions and also with inch dimensions. The more important single row taper roller bearings with metric dimensions are described in the following bearing tables.

In taper roller bearings the line of action of the resultant load forms an angle with the bearing axis. Taper roller bearings are therefore particularly suitable for carrying combined (radial and axial) loads. The bearings are of separable designs, i.e. the outer ring (cup) and the inner ring with roller and cage assembly (cone) may be mounted separately.

Bearings of this type use conical rollers guided by a back-face rib on the cone. These bearings are capable of taking high radial loads and also axial loads in one direction. They are generally mounted in pairs in a manner similar to single-row angular contact bearings. In this case, the proper internal clearance can be obtained by adjusting the axial distance between the cones or cups of the two opposed bearings. Since they are separable, the cone assemblies and cups can be mounted independently. Depending upon the contact angle, tapered roller bearings are divided into three types called the normal angle, medium angle, and steep angle.

Double-row are also available, they are mainly used for gearboxes and rolling mills. Pressed steel cages are generally used. The single row taper bearings are manufactured as standard to normal tolerances. All inner rings with roller and cage assembly (cone) and all outer rings (cup) having the same bearing designations are fully interchangeable. The tolerance on bearing width (abutment width T) will be unaffected.
